Welcome to "Ceramics: Form and Function," an immersive camp that centers around the mesmerizing art of wheel throwing. Designed for beginners and experienced ceramic artists alike, this camp offers a hands-on exploration of the potter's wheel. Participants will delve into the technical process of wheel throwing, learning to transform mounds of clay into elegant and purposeful creations. Throughout the process, from centering the clay on the wheel to crafting bowls and vases to trimming and decorating finished works, campers will immerse themselves in the Mingei Movement of 20th-century Japan. Centered around traditional forms, rustic sensibilities, and the celebration of craftsmanship, Mingei’s influence on contemporary ceramic art cannot be understated. The Mingei Movement will serve as inspiration for young ceramic artists in this camp, emphasizing the marriage of form and function, and encouraging artistic expression within the realm of utilitarian design. Join us for a week filled with spinning wheels, creative inspiration, and the celebration of practical elegance.

Please note: Due to the time necessary for proper drying and firing of ceramic artwork, campers should not expect to bring home finished work at the end of the week. All ceramic pieces will be fired and packaged within 2 weeks following the end of camp, and families will be notified via email as soon as they are available for pickup.
