Currently Speaking: Poetry and Consciousness

September 12, 2024

5-6:30pm

2 images side-by-side. The left image is a blurred photo of a waterfall by Catherine Opie. The 2nd is a closeup of a woman with long dark blonde hair smiling and looking directly at the camera with greenery in the background.

Presented by Bianca Stone, 2024 Vermont poet laureate.

A poetry reading and talk will explore how our Cartesian confining of consciousness to the human brain has allowed for the unprecedented destruction of the natural world. This talk will discuss how poetry uniquely situates language as a medium in which to illuminate a much greater consciousness, accessing complex psychical relations between people, nature, the cosmos, and the unknowable.
