2024 Annual Appeal
How we connected 500 small-town kids with 2 big-city artists.
We couldn’t just pack up 500 kids and ship them off to the big city. So once again, The Current brought New York art and artists to the kids. For three days in October, hundreds of elementary students from Stowe and Johnson schools got to meet internationally renowned artist Chakaia Booker (recently featured in Vogue and The New York Times) and master printer Justin Sanz.
You should have seen how their faces lit up as the artists talked about their work and then showed the kids how to make their own prints using our printmaking press.

Seeing with new eyes, being exposed to new ideas, exploring new ways of expressing ourselves, enriching our understanding of one another—that’s the power of The Current. It’s within your power to keep us building those bridges that connect communities.

Remember: 70% of our revenue comes from donors like you. You brought the exhibitions and the artists to Stowe. You purchased the press the kids used. You covered the supplies needed.

When we work together, great things happen. Not just famous artists and groundbreaking exhibitions (indoors and out), but art lessons for young and old, summer art camps, after-school programs, members’ art shows, artist talks and tours, poetry readings, ceramics, printmaking, glass, and community gatherings. Our goal is to engage more people than ever in 2025.

Every single gift makes our future brighter. Thank you for letting your love of art and community shine.

With high hopes and deep gratitude,
