Open call submissions will selected by a panel of jurors including DJ Hellerman and Lucas Cowan.
The exhibition will feature both selected submissions as well as invited artists and work selected by curator Rachel Moore. Past invited artists include Chakaia Booker, Woody De Othello, Hank Willis Thomas, and Oren Pinhassi, among others.

THANK YOU @timothy.curtis and everyone who celebrated the opening of “Timothy Curtis: The Painters’ Hands.” It was a phenomenal opening with attendees from Philadelphia, New York, and Vermont who gathered to hear Curtis speak about the incredible connection between original 1800s Pennsylvania Dutch Stoneware, 1960s-1970s Philadelphia graffiti art, and Curtis’s new work in the West Gallery. This breathtaking exhibition showcases a new understanding of art’s ability to be a powerful influence both aesthetically and in transforming lives.
The show is up until April 12 and we’re open Monday-Friday 10–5 and Saturday 10–3. Don’t miss the hands-on activities in our Art Lounge, with complimentary coffee and tea. Our Design Store is also open with new work by local designers and artists.

This week’s featured artist is internationally renowned artist, printmaker, and sculptor Chakaia Booker whose diverse body of work can be seen in all three of our exhibitions on view at The Current.
Chakaia Booker’s work has spanned decades with an intentionality of practice and purpose. She chooses discarded tires to create beauty from detritus and elegance from industry, allowing the viewer to appreciate the abstract materialism or look deeper into the strong underpinnings of social, racial, feminist, and environmental justice. Her work at The Current, both inside and out, highlights beauty and hardship, and tradition and caretaking. The breadth of work includes a commissioned outdoor sculpture and inside The Current, her photographs, prints, and sculptures fill the galleries. The work asks the viewers to take time to listen, lean in, to contemplate, to heal, to work, to create, to be.

Bianca Stone, Vermont’s Poet Laureate joins us for a poetry reading and talk at this month’s #CurrentlySpeaking event. We will explore how narrowing consciousness to human intellect leads to environmental harm, and how poetry can bridge people, nature, and the cosmos.
“Poetry brings the inner and outer world together and translates consciousness itself onto the page. It is not only relevant to our lives, but crucial in exploring what it is to be in this world. It is perhaps one of the most playful and serious mediums we have. But it is often misunderstood.” -Bianca Stone

This week’s featured artist is Clark Derbes, one of 11 artists in this group exhibition. Derbes is a Vermont-based artist who uses pattern, shape, and scale to alter perspective and playfully suggest space.

FEATURED ARTIST FRIDAY Born in Harlem, Faith Ringgold (1940-2024) is a seminal figure in contemporary art, known for her story quilts that blend vibrant textile art with social commentary.
Her print, “Death of Apartheid #2 (Orange One)”, c.1984 is on currently on view in our East Gallery as part of an exhibition on the EFA Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop, the oldest and longest-running community
print shop in the United States. The piece is part of The Robert Blackburn Printmaking Workshop Print Collection @LibraryofCongress

Her rich body of work includes paintings, murals, performances, sculptural objects, costumes, publications, wall hangings, and quilts. Her work addresses race, gender, and identity, influencing the art world while advocating for diversity and representation.
